Sleeping rooms are available at a special rate of $99 plus tax and can be reserved under the room block of the Great Lakes Captains’ Association Great Lakes Industry Days conference. The AquaHacking Great Lakes Challenge is an immersive, hands-on program that engages students and young professionals to apply their skills to develop innovative tech-based solutions for critical freshwater issues. Through the nine months of the Challenge, participants will have access to expert mentors and workshops. They will get entrepreneurship training and coaching as they prepare to pitch their solutions in our Shark Tank-style competitions.  Finalist teams will compete for $35,000 in seed funding and a spot in a startup incubator.

The R/V Mudpuppy II (USEPA) is looking for someone to fill in as Marine Technician for 2 weeks.  The vessel will be performing sediment cores in the Trenton Channel from 10/9/23 until 10/22/23.  Duties will primarily be coring related, anchoring, line handling.  Work is 10 hours/day.  Per diem and hotel are provided.  A minimum daily rate of $275 is offered for this position.  Applicants already possesing current 40 hour HAZWOWPER and/or a BS will see higher offer.  Please email jbonem@cetaceanmarine.com or call (989)327-4849.

PLEASE NOTE - A great deal of interest was expressed in holding a technical training class on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.  In response, NMC has set up a one-day course - Marine Electronics Fundamentals: Great Lakes Association of Science Ships (GLASS). This course was specially designed for the members of the Great Lakes Association of Science Ships (GLASS) and will focus on electrical safety, basic electrical theory, troubleshooting, soldering, cables and connectors, and electrical distribution systems. Details are provided on the location and cost at the link above. Please call (231) 995-1700 to register.  Please register as soon as possible this week to reserve a spot in the training session. There is a fee for the training course; however, the workshop is free.

The Water Innovation Lab (WIL) is immersive leadership training designed to accelerate collaborative innovation and advance new technologies. The program supports emerging leaders and entrepreneurs (ages 19-35) across the water and applied technology disciplines to learn and innovate together.

Participants in the WIL Great Lakes will work together to address the following themes:

1. Water systems monitoring technologies
2. Fisheries and habitat monitoring technologies
3. High-resolution mapping including benthic and LIDAR mapping
4. Data management, applications, and dissemination

Due to generous support from our partners, there are no fees to participate in the Water Innovation Lab - Great Lakes. Open to young professionals (ages 19-35) living, working, or studying in Canada or US. Deadline to apply is June 29th
